A Pets For Vets Match Story

Johnnie & Zellie

Johnnie and her family served our country honorably with the Army for a number of years and she received multiple decorations for both her conduct and skills. She participated in two tours overseas, and since her return has been challenged by anxiety and depression. Johnnie came to Pets for Vets hoping to find a Companion who could offer her mental and emotional support when she needed a friend who would ALWAYS be there to comfort her.

Zellie, a lab mix, was selected from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington specifically for Johnnie based on her playful nature, gentle manner and loving eyes. Since her training was completed, Zellie has become an integral part of Johnnie’s life and family. Zellie sleeps in bed with her to eliminate nightmares and offers a friendly ear when Johnnie just needs to talk. Johnnie admits that she had no idea how much she needed Zellie in her life until the two met, and now can’t imagine life without her.
